A History Filled With Grace

First Trinity Lutheran Church was an urban and multi-cultural Lutheran congregation on the east side of Indianapolis. Founded in 1868 by immigrants, First Trinity was the first Danish Lutheran church in the United States. The congregation worshiped for decades in downtown Indianapolis, on the corner of Noble and McCarty, then moved to a new building on 42nd Street in 1952. After 157 years of faithful commitment to sharing the Good News of Jesus and serving the surrounding community, First Trinity closed its doors in December 2025. We rejoice in the many blessings bestowed by Christ upon both the people of First Trinity and those whose lives were touched by this church.
